Saturday Volleyball vs Chapman

Well I went from the afternoon heat of Farquhar Field into a swarmy Currier Gym Saturday night to watch the first few games of the Lady Bulldogs vs. the Chapman Panthers. When I left we were up two games to one. Chapman was proving themselves to be worthy adversaries, despite the fact their mascot is a cat. Did anyone see a panther in the stands? Probably not.

UPDATE: Bulldogs won 3-2. Way to go Dawgs!

Talulah was keenly interested in going after loose volleyballs, but I kept her off the court for the most part. I will say that volleyball has more high fives than any other sport I know. Our team showed great spirit and exceptional ability. I'm glad there was a large crowd on hand to watch.

Soccer Saturday Afternoon

By the time I arrived at halftime, the Lady Bulldogs held a 4-0 advantage over the Whittier Poets. They added two more goals in the second half under the hot afternoon sun. T and I hung out on the berm with the men's soccer team and other fans to root them on. Great game ladies!

Wednesday Football Pictures

As has become tradition, Coach Maynard scheduled pictures for the football team on the hottest day possible. 21 seasons without fail. At least there was great light! I admit to getting a bit hot toward the end, so I had Talulah stand in for some of the individual shots.

Tuesday Volleyball

Little T and I stopped by Currier Gym to watch the Lady Bulldogs defeat the Occidental Tigers in three games. I spent the better part of the game catching a few winks under the bleachers but T entertained some of the supporting crowd, including fellow athletes from the ladies basketball team and the cross country team. I have to get my beauty rest when I can for my regular campus visit on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Pretty cool that the team posed with their best Bulldog faces with me (click on the picture for a larger view). Great School Spirit! Next home game for the Volleyball team is September 27 vs. Chapman at 6 pm. Another cat visiting the dog house. Let's get some more support down there.

Saturday Football vs Whitworth

It was the U of Arrrrh over the Whitworth Pirates tonight 38 to 7. This has been an awesome start to the season. We open SCIAC two weeks from now at La Verne. Our next home game is another 7 pm game October 11 vs Occidental.
Tonight was extra fun because my son Jack joined Talulah and I in the stands. I let the kids handle most of the meet and greet duties as I watched the offense pile up the yards. Both Talulah and Jack love being pet by kids of all ages, just like me. Talulah in particular will try and kiss everyone who stops by.

Women's Soccer

Another great evening on Farquhar Field where the Lady Bulldogs (inspired no doubt by Talulah's presence) defeated Pomona-Pitzer 1-0. Pretty good turn out for our SCIAC opening. Next week same time same place same outcome. Go Dawgs!

9/13 Football plus

Saturday afternoon we moseyed over to the western themed Och Tamale tailgate party to check out the vittles. We arrived a bit early (no handouts) so we quickly made it over to the aquatic center to catch the third quarter of the water polo game. Redlands was beating Oxy handily. Back to the tailgate party and Coach Maynard's pregame speech. It must have worked because we played an inspired game. Talulah and I watched from the field and the stands. It took most of the game for Talulah to warm up to the two-legged mascot, but she did. Great start to the season. We can't wait for next week. Bring on the Pirates!

9/13 Cross Country

Saturday was a busy day. We got up bright and early (not easy for a Bulldog this early in the semester) and caught the Cross Country meet as it coursed through Sylvan Park and the Quad. We saw a number of new faces as well as returning faces on our team. I must say the shoes on the runners were very colorful. Now if I can only suggest they try running on all four legs, it's much faster...
