Lady Bulldogs vs. Caltech

Thurber and I watched tonight's game vs. the Beavers of Caltech where 10 of our 11 players scored en route to an impressive 82-35 SCIAC victory. The Beavers are playing improved ball but then so are our Bulldogs. We went on a 14 -0 run in the middle of the first half and 11 -0 and 16-0 runs in the second. Thurber could be heard barking during the second run. I'll have to work on his game etiquette, but I like his enthusiasm. Overall we shot 47 percent from the floor and near 75 percent from the line. Both good numbers as we head into the final stretch of SCIAC play. But more importantly, we played great defense holding them to 24 percent shooting and causing 23 turnovers. We have one more home game of the regular season and that is Senior Night, February 13 vs. the Poets of Whittier. We have two outstanding Seniors who have enjoyed two outstanding careers at Redlands featured in that game. Be there!

Last mile in our 700 Miles to Haiti Swimathon

Bulldog Swimmers, faculty, children of faculty, staff, and community members raised over 11k in our fundraiser to benefit the earthquake victims of Haiti. The final laps of over 1,400 miles were swum yesterday at Thompson Aquatic Center. Thurber donned some goggles and was ready to hit the water for a celebratory swim until I reminded him Bulldogs of the mascot kind sink better than they swim. Thanks for all the support. Go Dawgs!

Bulldogs vs. CMS Athenas

Every now and then you need a game like tonight. Our last few home games have been way too close and I'm getting way too old for the drama. I was actually looking forward to a few road games to recover but tonight, our lady Bulldogs took care of business. They played great defense, shot well, and never let the Athenas back into the game after we went up by 30 plus points in the first half. Yeah, 30 plus points! I was able to relax and spend half time walking around the gym with Thurber. Meeting fans and showing off my grand kid are my favorite things to do. The second half we stayed focused and fierce. Courtney, Meghan, and Mariah had stand out games. Mackenzie and Ali played well. Our bench got quality minutes. Chelsea, Ashley, Killian, Katy, Christina, and Allison contributed like veterans. This team has depth and it showed tonight. And what is this 80 percent free throw percentage? What team was I watching? I'm glad Thurber finally got to see this team at it's full potential. We have five more SCIAC games to go. Let's continue playing like this through the end of the month and beyond. Caltech on Saturday at 5 pm.

Duke Tours the New Digs at Armacost

Thurber told me about a quick tour he took earlier this week of the new study lounge and coffee shop at Armacost that opened on Monday. I decided to see it for myself. The Bulldog Cafe had a long line for coffee drinks and munchies and many students were making themselves comfortable on the couches or at tables. Already it seems to be a favorite hang out. They did a great job. It's much nicer than when my kennel was here.....

Bulldogs in OT vs. CMS Stags

Currier Gym was packed when I showed up at half time. There was close to 700 people again. This was a game I had to see. Two number ones battling for the SCIAC lead. The Stags held the lead for most of the second half. They went up by 10 at one point but we battled right back and a three pointer by Matt with 14 seconds left put the game into Overtime. But my mascot magic went as cold as our shooting touch and before we knew it were again down by 7 with a minute to go. There was no coming back from that tonight but what a great game. We deserved to share the number one spot for this past week and with more great play and more support from our frenzied and loud fans, we may end up there again before the season is through. Cal Tech is next this Saturday.
