Softball and Women's Tennis

Apres swim, Talulah and I wandered over to the softball field to catch part of the Alumni game. We got in another team photo, but that was cut a bit short by my daughter as she bolted away from the reins of the catcher. Glad she was wearing protective clothing! We left before the game was over, but the best part was that Redlands was bound to win! You can tell there were a few exciting moments for us on the walk to Tennis. Let's just say my handler is sleeping well tonight.... Speaking of sleeping, Talulah and I found the concrete below the stands to be very inviting. Too inviting. Our tennis squad looked sharp in their new uniforms, for the few moments we had our eyes open. So alas, we had to leave early. It had been a long day in the sun and there will be many more tennis matches for us to visit.

Swim and Dive vs CMS

It was Senior Day at Thompson Aquatic Center. And another perfect winter day in Redlands to hold a swim meet. Talulah and I were able to sneak in a few shots of the team, plus an extra shot of the Lucky 13 (or is that 14?). These are the Seniors who just swam their last collegiate home dual meet. I think the cookies, balloons, and flowers were much appreciated. It's been fun watching them. CMS left with victories against both the women and men, but we're looking forward to conference finals in the coming weeks. By then, Talulah might qualify as a substitute stroke judge. She was schmoozing to referee at today's meet. She even wore white, but she was DQ'd.

Women's Basketball vs. Cal Tech

From the house to the car and then the car to the gym, Talulah ran. She ran and pulled, pulled and ran. Kids! Well, it's been a while since she's been out so I can't blame her. She was eager to watch our Lady Bulldogs host Cal Tech and she wasn't disappointed. This was a game where she got to see almost all the players get court time and everyone who stepped on the court notched at least a point. Allison, Christina, and Nicki all scored in double figures as the team made half of the shots it took. Cal Tech shot 36 percent against our formidable defense. We're going to need another superb performance versus Oxy on Saturday. Both the Tigers and us sport identical overall and SCIAC records. I'll be at home watching the Swim and Dive and perhaps some tennis later in the afternoon. But I'll be watching for updates on Saturday night. Go Dawgs!

Women's Basketball vs. Chapman

The Panthers of Chapman visited Currier Gym tonight. It was a little over a month ago when we were distracted by impending finals and a bit timid to be on the road that the Panthers shredded us by 26 points. This is a new year. And this was our kennel. And finals are dog years away. So we returned the favor and after a tight 32 minutes of play pulled away for a 25 point victory of our own. We won 76-51. That's 33 more points than we scored the first time. We made almost half of our shots. Four of our Lady Bulldogs scored in double digits; Meghan, Shada, Courtney, and Mariah. We had no double digit scorers the first time against Chapman. Meghan set the defensive tone for tonight's game with a blocked shot on the first possession. Four team blocks and 42 missed Panther shots later we beat a team that hadn't lost a game since December 18th. From this point forward, all of our games are SCIAC games. We have three home games left, including this Thursday versus Cal Tech. Come out and root us on. The cheerleaders will be there and I'll be walking around before the game and at half time looking for a kind pat on the head or scratch behind the ear. Talulah on the other hand needs a little more personal time.

Talulah Whereabouts

I've had a few questions about Talulah and why she hasn't showed up at the kennel lately. Let me put the rumors to rest. I grounded her. She's a teenager. What else do I need to say?
OK, she's been sequestered at home for a few weeks for personal reasons, but she'll be ready to visit campus again soon. Maybe toward the end of this week.

Women's Basketball vs. La Verne

Did anyone else notice the change in the weather today? Being a canine I have a unique sense of pressure and temperature and both were heading south. If you didn't notice it during the day, you surely would have tonight on Gary Smith Court. A cold front pushed through and it affected our Lady Bulldogs shooting more than those furry leopards from La Verne. I guess the good news is that we held them to 35 percent shooting. The bad news is that we shot 29 percent and we lost 50-42. But Mariah led all scorers with 15. That's good news. I made some interesting observations during the game. First, La Verne is a good team. They're leading the SCIAC for a reason. And we played them tough. Second, we had tremendous support from the student body and our University administration. Third, I could have sworn I saw Shada in two places. Isn't that her in the stands behind Ali?
