Saturday night Currier Gym played host to the SCIAC opener against the Regals of Cal Lu. We're playing at home. We've won four in a row. What could go wrong? How about missing our first 16 shots from the field and falling behind early. Yep. We did. The fact is SCIAC is not going to be easy. There are a number of good teams out there and Bulldog fans were justified in feeling a twinge of anxiety as the Regals built an 11 point lead right out of the gate. But our players didn't panic. We maintained our poise and we found a spark in Z who hit several shots including a three to ignite the effort to get back into it. By half we had taken the lead 32-30. We then proceeded to build our own 11 point lead at the start of the second half, but we watched that erode as the Regals refused to go down quietly. Did we panic? Nope. A key three pointer by Jesse and excellent free throw shooting by Mariah, Brittany, and Courtney secured the victory, 52-46. This was a hard fought game with nearly 50 fouls and half as many bodies flung to the floor. SCIAC is going to be tough. We may be the reigning champs, but that was last year. This is now. We're 1-0 in conference play. That's awesome. We protected our home court. Now we have non-conference Chapman at home this Tuesday followed by two SCIAC away games. Go Dawgs!
