The Panthers of Chapman brought 15 suited players to Currier Gym. We had nine because Brittany and Courtney were in street clothes. Seeing our low numbers, the Panther press was on from the opening whistle. And it worked. The Panthers scored 45 points off of 41 Bulldog turnovers. There was a point at half time where I was working out with Coach Mari in case my number was going to be called. I was ready. I have hops. And flops. But it turned out I wasn't needed. Allison stepped up with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting, Mariah had 14, and Jesse 12. We played them even through two halves and it came down to OT where we ran out of gas against the press. When the other team puts up nearly double the number of shots (89 to 45) it almost doesn't matter how many we make. But there were bright spots. We had 13 blocks. We shot 54 percent overall and 42 percent from behind the arc including three from Ashley, three from Jesse, and two from Mariah including the buzzer beater that put us into OT. We had 52 rebounds. It was a solid performance by a depleted squad. It shows our depth and it bodes well once we get our numbers back up. Watching the game tying shot go in at the end of regulation was as thrilling a moment as we've seen yet. Conference play resumes later this week with two away games at Cal Tech and Oxy. Our Lady Bulldogs are back in action at home on January 20th vs. La Verne.
