Football vs. Kingsmen (L 22-24)

Over 1,500 fans came out for our SCIAC opener vs. the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran. It was Take a Kid to the Game Night and everyone was treated to a nail biting down to the last 16 seconds type game that unfortunately ended with the Kingsmen blocking our field goal try for the win. But the game was so much more than the finish. There was a blocked punt that led to our first score. There was an incredible goal line stand by our defense. There were four Bulldog turnovers; one each quarter. We made two fourth down conversions and missed two others. We had seven penalties to their nine. In the third quarter we came alive after two Kingsmen turnovers. Mike ran back an interception 61 yards breaking several tackles on the way to a touchdown. And Josh intercepted another shortly after the first that resulted in a Bulldog touchdown one play later. In the fourth they went ahead on a field goal. We responded by driving the ball deep into the red zone but we came away empty. Still, we got the ball back after another defensive stand and then it all came down to a two minute drill. We put ourselves into a position to win, despite the miscues, and a Kingsman sticks up his hand and bats down our victory. That was tough. It was exciting. Thanks to all the parents who brought their kids out to the game. It was great to see the support. Bring them again in two weeks when we take on CMS.
